About SyncIT.com
SyncIT.com Inc. was originally founded by Michael Berneis and Terence Way in November 1998 and the site went live in March of 1999. At its peak, SyncIT.com grew to a community of over 350,000 users synchronizing their bookmarks and favorites using their BookmarkSync product.
Prior to founding SyncIT, Michael and Terry were Internet Architects for the New York Stock Exchange and Reuters America. In these jobs, both were responsible for designing cutting-edge Intranet technologies for Wall Street trading and information systems.
Due to an unfortunate, but catastrophic hardware failure in 2002, restoration of the original SQL server database became impossible. Yet, rather than let the BookmarkSync concept perish, Michael and Terry decided to donate all of their work and the technology behind SyncIT to the open source community. After a lot of hard work by Lauren Roberts, a portion of the original ASP code and MS SQL server code was translated to PHP and MySQL.
Sync2It is my attempt, working from that original translation of the full server code, at restoring SyncIT back to the community of loyal BookmarkSync users. The name “Sync2It” was chosen to keep as much of the original branding in place and to restore the original site as best as possible.
In April of 2005, Michael and Terry agreed to allow Sync2It to acquire the SyncIT and BookmarkSync domain names as a way to help perpetuate their great idea. Without their hard work, imagination and spirit of goodwill, Sync2It would not exist today.
