Basic Concepts

The Sync2It software keeps your browser bookmarks synchronized, regardless of how many different browsers you use, or how many different computers you use. Once your bookmarks are synchronized, you can view them from any computer: an Internet kiosk, an Internet cafe, or your WebTV set.

Once installed and configured, the software runs quietly on your taskbar. The Sync2It icon appears when your bookmarks are synchronized, like so:

Whenever you modify or organize your bookmarks, the Sync2It icon will change to . This means Sync2It is trying to connect to and download permission to upload the new bookmark to the central http://www.sync2it.com/ site, where it stores your bookmarks.

The Sync2It client now gives you more insight into the state of the synchronization progress. After a successful login, your bookmarks are sent to the server and this icon will appear. If you modify another bookmark while a synchronization is in progress, then the icon will appear indicating Sync2It is processing multiple synchronization requests. Routine communication with the Sync2It server where no bookmarks have been modified will be indicated by the inverted Sync2It icon, as shown here. If auto-sync has been turned off, the icon will changed to whenever a bookmark is changed on your computer, indicating that the current bookmarkset is stale and needs to be manually sync'ed.

Feel free to Install BookmarkSync on all of your computers, if you have more than one. Your existing bookmarks will be downloaded as you install the Sync2It software on each of your different computers. Changes you make to your bookmarks on one computer will be made on the other computers.

When you're away from your computer, you can still see the web pages you've bookmarked by logging on to the central Sync2It web site.

You can make some or all of your bookmarks accessible to other Sync2It users... and you can see what other users have bookmarked, if they allow you to. If you're constantly using a friend's bookmarks, you can subscribe to his or her bookmarks, so you'll always have fast access to them through the Sync2It icon in your taskbar.
